Name: Captain Artaxerxes Mathias Hirren (Art for short)
Age:28
Sex:Male
Faction: Hirren
Ship: The Dark Elegance
Appearance: Artaxerxes has perhaps what might be described as a typical pirate appearance. Long dark brown dreadlocks with lightened streaks from the sea spray and sun. His wears some silver rings around certain locks as a decoration and a symbol of luck finding fortune. His eyes are dark brown, rimmed with thick and long lashes, perhaps even having one or two wrinkles, although they are faint.
His skin is tanned and well worn, swarthy from all the time at sea, and he has his fair share of calluses and blisters although they have worn away a little over recent years. One thing that hasn’t faded much, are his battle scars. He has several long slashes across his chest he gained during fights and raids, as well as a few lines on his arms from various other accidents.
His clothing is typical of those at sea. A white undershirt, something to keep warm in the coldest of sea sprays. Above that, a waistcoat of a deep blue, silver buttons down the sides and a variety of needlework along the edges. Above that a heavy thick jacket, a little worn with age, of a dark brown colour, although some of it is worn to a lighter sandy appearance. He also wears a variety of belts, buckles and other treasures carried about his person whether for good luck of for use as he is highly superstitious.
His effects never leave his side, when he speaks of them, he refers to the long sabre, passed down to all of the leaders of the town, the blade stained red with, what legend would say, is the blood of the god and his lover. Along with that, he carries his flintlock, a small dagger and his hat and bandanna, although they are not quite as important to him.
Personality: Art is perhaps described as a little self serving, although kind hearted enough, with a good streak of helpfulness, he will use others to get what he needs, although he would rather not put them in danger. This perhaps makes him a perfect leader for the pirate town, simply because he is willing to sacrifice anything to make himself successful, and his own success depends on that of the town.
He is rather a charmer, friendly with those around him, and a smooth talker that oozes wit and charm. But because of this, he would rather avoid physical confrontation, and is not afraid to run if the going gets tough. His survival instinct overrules everything. Despite being a “ladies man” with a rather intuitive sense of the female emotions, he has never found himself able to commit to any long-term relationship, the same goes for friendships. He has very few that he can call friends, as his bonds are mostly only skin deep.
He projects perhaps an incompetent image, simply to throw those around him off guard. His enemies are often thwarted by surprise when the often slurring, rather inept man springs to life only to ruin their plans.
He appears to be open, talking with large and sometimes wild hand gestures, his face particularly expressive, often displaying a furrow of confusion or a wide smile of happiness. Usually, his best smile is reserved for when he is drunk, which he so often is.
Strengths: Although he is tall, reaching over 6”3 in height, he is not particularly heavy and cannot use his weight as strength. Instead, he relies on wit, agility, luck and intelligence to protect himself in a fight and does not hold back for the sake of scruples. He uses a variety of athletic and acrobatic moves, combined with trickery and a great skill with swords to win his battles, although much of the time, he would rather not fight at all.
Although he might not seem it, he is a highly skilled seaman, using wit and experience to navigate the toughest and hardest seas, to bring down the unlucky ships that he targets. Although he does not often resort to it, he has a wide variety of magical skills, his being the strongest in the town as he is a direct descendant of the very first pirate captain that took the sword from the rock caverns.
Weaknesses: Venturing outside of the towns and the sight of his crew can be a dangerous event as he is wanted for a series of crimes, a bounty on his head that would have him killed for a significant reward. This makes him a good target for those who a strapped for cash.
Along with that, he is considered to be a bit of a coward simply because he would rather run than fight, and often tries to worm his way out of confrontation with reason and wit. His strength is somewhat lacking, and for his height, he is not particularly forceful.
And like many pirates, he has a taste for alcohol, although his goes somewhat beyond a simple drink now and again, he carries a flask at his hip, which is filled at every opportunity. This often means he is drunk and gives him somewhat of a disadvantage when it comes to brawling and feats of amazing accuracy.
History: Artaxerxes Mathias Hirren was born to the leader of the town Mathias Jameson Hirren and his wife Maliya Hirren. He was born a direct descendant to the pirate that first discovered the sword of the god, hidden upon a secret island in the middle of the ocean. This meant he was born to lead the village.
His father was a strict man, often away, working out on the ships to bring back loot to the village. They fulfilled contracts, searching down certain ships to unload them of their goods to sell to other merchants. It was a hard and dangerous life, and it was at a very young age that Artaxerxes lost his father.
At the age of five, he was given the sabre that his father had always carried, and with that, he was told that he must learn to be leader, and at the age of 17, would take over the rule of the town from the circle of the trusted. This was a frightening prospect for such a young child, and it caused him to cling to his mother, and avoid any responsibility he could.
Children bring their traits with them into adulthood, and it was, that as an irresponsible child, he grew to an irresponsible adult, leaving the town at the age of 13 to go to sea. It was there that he truly began to understand the hardships he would have to face. This turned him to drink, and being such a tall young man, this made him look older, and attracted women.
When he returned to Hirren, he was 19, 2 years later than he had planned to return, but he had earned his wings, he had contacts all over the lands, and a list of crimes longer than his arm. He took over control then, making drastic changes to some of the ways things were run, and he changed it back to the pirate town it once was.
He spent 9 years running the town, going out to sea and earning the loot to pay for enough food for the village, trading and earning himself a rather large reputation that spread far in front of his ship, wherever he went. He is now well known among not only his own people, but in several other cities, mostly for the crimes he has committed against them.
