Character Details
Name: Daichi Kuto (Kuto being the family name)
Age: 22
Sex: Male
Faction: Ganura
Magic: Ignoring...
Appearance: Daichi cuts a slim figure, barely topping five feet, and with a body toned more by travel than by any other physical activity. He tends to wear his black hair in a tangled mess, and dresses in a modest manner.
Personality: Daichi takes great pride in his job as informant, and considers it a personal attack when it's not taken seriously, or worse confused for a job as private investigator. He is generally friendly, though his intellegence does give him a streak of arrogance and condescension.
Predominately, Daichi is a coward. Faced with a dangerous situation, his first instinct is to run. While he has -some- expierience defending himself, he finds himself extremely hesitant to use it. If the situation becomes worse, or if Jonas can't immediately escape, he tends to panic.
But on rare occasions, once he reaches a near black-out point of fear (Which is easier than it seems in his case.) He has been known to lose himself for a while, and then a new personality emerges, at least until the danger passes. His other side speaks in a monotone, and thinks with cold, emotionless calculation. Here he is dangerous and should be avoided.
Strengths: Daichi has a broad scope of knowledge, and a talent for acquiring new information, a handy skill in his vocation. His friendly demeanor (when not threatened) also gives him a knack for talking his way into people's confidence.
Weaknesses: As stated above, Daichi is a coward. He is disposed to flinch and cringe instead of defending himself. Therefore, he would be almost useless in a fight situation. Another great weakness of his is women; try as he might to be cool-headed, he occasionally has a near-debilitating nervousness around women.
History: Born in a small village in Ganura, Daichi dreamed of serving the Shirezi in some more important way than plowing the fields. Unfortunately, he learned quickly enough that he had zero aptitude for the military. The concept of going to war made him sick with fear, and the other recruits mocked his backpedaling style of fighting in training bouts.
Enter the informant: two parts scout, one part investigator, and one part scholar. If he couldn't get a job on the physical aspect of the military, then surely he could be useful for the mental one! Soon he was skipping fighting practices in favor of teaching himself to read and write, acquiring knowledge where he could.
Granted, people began to take notice. His father, who failed to make the connection between his son's reduced intrest in battle and his new desire to help his country, saw his skipping training as a sign of cowardice. He enforced the rule that a Kuto must be unafraid of anything, even battle. Daichi tried many times to explain that he meant to help in a way that would spare him the sword, but it only served to strengthen his father's ire.
Eventually, things cooled down, but were not the same. Daichi's father, ashamed to have sired a coward, began focusing less and less on him and more on his siblings, especially his younger brother, Kanaye, who showed great skill and bravery and seemed to be destined for great undertakings. Practiced resumed again for Daichi too, having no way around it, and to his dismay the other villagers treated him harsher than before.
One day, after a particularly vicious sparring, Daichi found himself shamed by his more capable younger brother, though Kanaye was seven years his junior. He was unable to face his father, which was just as well; his father didn't want to see him either. It was then that Daichi decided that his ambitions were never to be reached in his own village. With the clothes on his back and a second-hand sword, he left the village hoping to find someone who would hear his desires.
Sample Rp: Daichi strode down the path frantically. The sun had set, and he was already beginning to doubt his choice to leave the nice, quiet village. At least there he had a nice place to sleep, with no need to worry about...
He jumped. He could have sworn he had heard something moving. Not wanting to take his chances, he broke into a faster walk. And then another rustle; Daichi began to jog. Rustle. Daichi ran flat out, past the fields, leapt over a fence. He tripped, landed uncerimoniously on his face, and then kicked himself up and kept running. Rounding a shed, he came face to face with something, and he screamed, a very unmanly noise.
The cow turned its head and regarded the youth by lowing in annoyance. Daichi looked behind him, relieved to discover no one was following him, then looked back to the cow, who had decided to take its rest somewhere else. "First day out..." Daichi muttered, "And we're already screaming at the cows..."
